The construction of Fiona Stanley Hospital commenced with the pouring of concrete for the main hospital in December 2009. The Fiona Stanley Hospital is located on Murdoch Drive, Murdoch, some 15 kilometres south of the Perth CBD.

The Fiona Stanley Hospital once complete will include 643 beds. In addition there will also be a 140-bed State rehabilitation service.

When the Fiona Stanley Hospital opens in 2014, the hospital will be the major tertiary health facility in the south metropolitan area, offering services to communities in Perth's southern suburbs and across the State.
